Hi, I’m Yas:
A 33 year old, poorly motivated fair-weather cyclist
An NHS Physiotherapist at Berkshire Healthcare
Weekend Warrior for: – Crowthorne Ladies RFC – Maidenhead Hockey – Any club playing Sean Paul
… and I’m about to exponentially expand the number of adventures under my belt and favors I owe.
What i'm up to?
Summer 2023 I plan to cycle my beloved tandem from Maidenhead, my hometown, to Tunis in Tunisia. At this point the idea is that the additional pedal power will be provided by a mixture of friends joining me on the back for different legs of the trip. The 2000 mile route will take me through 8/9 European countries, over a few mountains and across a collection of seas before delivering me onto the African continent at Tunisia.
My why...
Life feels better with a bit of purpose. I’ve got a fun job, play some great sports and have lovely friends and family, but life feels a bit monotonous sometimes. I previously ran the London Marathon and raised £6k along the way for Mityana Uganda Charity. I can’t lie, it was horrendous. A truly poor personal sporting performance and traumatic day out that I genuinely thought had triggered fibromyalgia. But I didn’t have time to feel bored – I ran events, held parties and trained to run and it kept me busy and fulfilled…. so the goal now is to scale it up!
I have a couple of Charities that I really care about, and if I can raise some money for them along the way then why not!
What's the Target, and Where is it Going?
There’s two targets:
1. To raise £100,000 I don’t think I’ve written all of the zeros before. Terrifying. All of the money raise will go to three carefully selected charities. You will not be paying for my bike, the skittles or the therapy I will need. 2. To complete the prep and journey without buying anything new. As a way of keeping the trip as sustainable as possible, and higlight what can be achieved on pre-loved purchasing!
When does the challenge start?
The big ride starts next month – September 2023. However, in order to achieve my fundraising target I’ve be completing a number of smaller physical challenges with my Backers, as well as social and community events.
The next, and final fundraising event is The Get On The Back Charity Festival
